PPI Razor Program for Audi R8
The “RAZOR” covers the add-on aero package for the R8 V8 and V10 models. These parts are designed to work with original bodywork. The “RAZOR GTR” is the wide-body package, which replaces every body panel other than the doors, roof, and A pillars, with 100% carbon-fiber pieces.  Since the replacement parts are all made of carbon-fiber, the weight of the vehicle is reduce by about 250 lbs. Technically, the GTR package is available only as a complete car, built by PPI Germany, but they will make an exception for West Coast Motorsport in an effort to grow their presence in North America. However, the build does require guidance and supervision from a PPI Germany Technician. The Technician will fly in from Germany to coordinate the build and uphold the highest standards of quality and fit. Given the complexity and cost of the package, as you can appreciate, it only makes sense to have direct supervision from PPI Germany. This is a requirement of PPI Germany.

Suspension
Suspension components are not included in the Widebody GTR conversion. The client may choose to have us install lowering springs alone ($1100), springs with hydraulic lift kit - lifts front axle ($8800), a complete coil-over suspension ($6500), or a coil-over system with hydraulic lift system together ($14,200).  If the client decides on the coil-over kit, and will be setting the suspension for track use, we recommend the PPI camber plate/tie rod kit as well ($4500).

Please note that the suspensions from PPI Design are not off the shelf kits - spring rates have been developed in the US after much evaluation on the street, and on the track. The coil-over kit allow the driver to lower the car between 10 and 30mm, and disables the OE Magnetic Ride Control. The hydraulic lift system raises the nose of the car by up to 45mm (almost 2 inches) at the touch of a cockpit-mounted switch, and operates up to 50 MPH (the car lowers automatically above this speed).

Wheels
Wheels are not included in the Widebody GTR conversion. The client will choose between 19” ($8000) and 20” ($9500) applications in Matte Black, Glossy Black, or Carbon Silver. Naturally, the wheels have specific widths and offsets for the widebody GTR. The “official” RAZOR GTR wheel and tire package offered by PPI specifies: Front - 10.0” X 19” et 11 and Rear - 11” X 20” et 16 with 245/35ZR19 and 335/30ZR20 Michelin PS2 tires.

Logistics
The GTR kit takes 6 to 8 weeks to be delivered in the U.S., from date of order. PPI Germany keeps some of the parts on hand, but typically the kits are built to order since the customer can choose the finish of the parts.

Note: Clients that decide to forego the comlete Widebody GTR conversion can, of course, choose the PPI Razor package, or the narrow-body versions of the front hood, side blades, rear fenders and rear hatch with intake channels.

The Exclusive German Audi-tuner, PPI Automotive Design GmbH intensifies the fire and presents the special limited production Supercar, the PPI RAZOR GTR.

Performance
Following the introduction of the wildly successful PPI R8 RAZOR at last year's Essen Motor Show, PPI Automotive Design GmbH have used all its knowledge from the past year in competition, closed road races, open road races, and research and development in the wind channel, autobahn and track testing, to create a truly inspired production car. The Audi specialist turned its focus on optimising the power-to-weight ratio of the Audi R8 while simultaneously strengthening the motor, increasing performance, improving handling dynamics, and managing to reduce the weight of the Audi R8.

The essential part of the motor alteration is the incorporation of a specially engineered supercharger. In addition, a ram-charged sport air filter system and a high performance exhaust system made of stainless steel have been designed and added specifically to work in conjunction with the supercharger system. These components are precisely adjusted to each other with the help of a new ignition map for motor electronics.

The result, after this extensive modification, is a car with up to 580hp / 427 kW at 7,400 rpm, a maximum torque of 600 Nm at 6,200 rpm at its disposal, and a weight decrease of 250 kg over its serial counterpart (serial curb weight 1,580 kg). Providing the PPI RAZOR GTR with the ability to achieve speeds from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.7 seconds with a maximum top speed of 332 km/h. This insures the proper performance to easily meet the demands of its motorsports and enthusiast clientele.

PPI offers several engine kits for the Audi R8 Models.

V8 power upgrade options:
Stage 1 - 40 HP increase
Stage 2 - Supercharger 200 HP increase

V10 power upgrade options:
Stage 1 - 60 HP increase
Stage 2 - 80 HP increase
Stage 3 - Further power increases available upon request

To achieve these power increases, PPI makes use of Formula1 technology and research and development data from extensive testing. Combined with 580 HP supercharged V8 or the 600 HP V10 engine, this vehicle rockets to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds. A top speed of over 323 km/h (201 mph) is possible.

Naturally, this required bigger wheels, brakes, and cooling. PPI uses a 380 mm braking system with six-piston calipers in the front, and four-piston calipers at the back. PPI fitted the Supercar with 10 x 19 and 11 x 20 forged aluminum wheels, with 265/35 19, and 335/30 20 Michelin Pilot Sport 2. Alternatively, Carbon Fiber wheels are optional in the following dimensions: 10 x 19" and 12 x 20" Wheel and Tire applications are custom-tailed to drivers driving-style.

Aerodynamics
In addition to the excellent driving performance, this PPI Supercar also has a striking widebody appearance with elaborate, wind tunnel tested aerodynamics. Special attention was paid to the reduction of the vehicle's weight, which was achieved by PPI's extensive use of the extremely light and high-strength formula 1 and aerospace-proven Carbon Fibre. All parts are made of this high-tech material, reducing weight and adding strength in the process.

The PPI RAZOR GTR front bumper replaces the serial bumper and the new design in conjunction with a specially engineered front diffuser, reduces lifting forces at the front axle. Larger air inlets in connection with a new full LED-headlight unit present the two-seater with an even more athletic face. More importantly, these air inlets feed the radiators with additional fresh air and channels through the new front hood to provide optimal cooling to the brake system. PPI sideskirts highlight the sporty profile of the GTR and also diffuses the airflow around the sides of the car for improved aerodynamic stability.

In order to perfectly balance out the down-force behaviour of the front-axle with the rear axle, PPI equips the RAZOR GTR with a special rear wing with an adjustable Gurney-flap. The motor cover, made of the light high-tech polycarbonate material Makrolon®, also has specially designed Carbon Fibre ram-charged air inlets that replace the heavy OEM Engine cover and aid in cooling, ensuring the consistent performance of the RAZOR GTR. Aiding in the engine cooling, are the newly designed side blades, rear fenders and rear bumper allow for additional motor bay and exhaust cooling that, in conjunction with the Carbon Fibre rear diffuser, optimises the airflow over and through the rear portion of this sharp performance car.

The RAZOR GT/GTR packages are offered in 4 levels. The core bodykit is the RAZOR GT, this is the widebody package in paintable carbon fiber without the engine cover/air channels and without the rear spoiler.

The second, is the previously shown RAZOR GTR kit. This is the same as the GT kit and includes the additional Rear engine cover/air channels, Front Radiator Air channel (that is continous with the front bonnet) and Rear Spoiler. Presented at the 2009 TopMarques Show in Monaco.

The third kit, is the RAZOR GTR kit in Optical form. This bodykit is finished in a way to allow all parts to be shown in visible carbon fiber. Presented at the 2009 Dubai Motor Show.

The fourth, is the RAZOR GTR Visible Carbon Fiber. This is a full-bodied Carbon Fiber car with PPI TM s RAZOR GTR kit and doors and roof in Carbon Fiber.

Handling
The overall appearance of the car is further enhanced by a new widebody skin to allow the PPI RAZOR GTR the proper structure to accommodate all the performance enhancements and wider wheels. The RAZOR GTR utilizes specially designed lightweight MAG9 Carbon Fiber Forged Aluminum PPI wheels. At the front, 10Jx19 MAG9 wheels weighing 8.8kgs with 255/35 ZR 19 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres are fitted and an impressive 12.0J x 20 MAG9 wheels weighing 10.0 kgs with 325/25 ZR 20 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres are used at the rear. This wheel and tyre-combination proves to be the optimal balance between comfort and control while maintaining proper road feedback for the driver.

PPI also developed a special high-performance braking system available only for the RAZOR GTR that can be identified by its metallic orange-coloured brake callipers. The optimal deceleration and perfect pedal pressure control is now achieved by enlarged 6-piston callipers in connection with extra-large discs measuring 380 x 36 millimetres at the front and 356 x 32 mm discs at the rear axle providing greater pad surface contact area and heat dissipation.

Nothing has been left untouched, as is evidenced by the new coil over kit developed in conjunction with technology partner KW Automotive GmbH. This system has been specially adjusted to the needs of the PPI RAZOR GTR. And comes equipped with a Hydraulic Lift System, which can increase ground clearance by up to 45 millimetres if needed and therefore enables the driver to enter underground car parks or drive over speed bumps.

Interior “Performance”
PPI completely re-designs the interior and turns the R8-interior into a “members-only” lounge with a motorsports flair. The serial interior is replaced by highest quality Onyx Nubuck-leather with orange-coloured accents and highlights. Additionally, PPI equips the limited edition RAZOR GTR with extensive Carbon Fibre throughout the cockpit; hand-brake lever, door sill protectors, Driver and Radio Console Surround, Door Trims, Center Console inserts, and kneepad trims, the ultra-light folding sport seats are also made of Carbon Fibre and bear the PPI “Sport Identity” style, following with the headliner, the steering wheel, shift knob, door panels and center console. The technical highlight of the interior is the ergonomically re-designed PPI sport steering wheel. Highlighting the exclusivity of this limited series production is PPI RAZOR GTR badging, threshold plates, and an aluminium production plaque framed by Carbon Fibre.

PPI gives Audi R8 801hp via Bi-Centrifugal Supercharger

German Audi tuner PPI Automotive has announced the debut of their Bi-Centrifugal Supercharger (B-CS) kit for the Audi R8 V8 4.2 FSI at the TopMarques Monaco show yesterday.

Churning out a massive 801 bhp (597 kW / 811 PS), PPI lays claim to being the "first and only company to combine a centrifugal supercharger with the R8 V8 4.2 FSI motor in 2009, and now they offer an innovative and completely unique Bi-Centrifugal Supercharging system, once again, tearing away from the competition and boosting the car into the stratosphere where few supercars enter."

The complete performance package consists of two R48 bi-centrifugal superchargers with magnetic coupling, up-rated pistons, rings, connecting rods, bearings, improved valvetrain, water-to-air charge cooler, special sport air filter in a carbon fiber air box, roof ram-charged air intake system, sport exhaust and remapped ECU. Compression ratio is 9.2:1. In the transmission 1st and 2nd gears are strengthened and a longer final gear is installed for higher top speed.

When all is said and done, horsepower kicks up to 801 bhp (597 kW / 811 PS) and torque at 860Nm @ 5910 rpm. 0 to 100 km/h takes 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). PPI notes a higher top speed is achievable with additional aerodynamic components.

The Exclusive Audi tuner from Germany, PPI Automotive Design GmbH, presents the PPI Bi-CENTRIFUGAL SUPERCHARGER (B-CS), specifically designed for long-term and daily use in the Audi R8 V8 model with manual transmission. PPI already was the first and only company to combine a centrifugal supercharger with the R8 V8 4.2 FSI motor in 2009, and now they offer an innovative and completely unique Bi-Centrifugal Supercharging system, once again, tearing away from the competition and boosting the car into the stratosphere where few supercars enter. This dual system modification is sure to fit the requirements of the discerning driving enthusiast and finally satisfies the expectations from a sports car like the Audi R8 with the much needed power increase. Performance and power only PPI Automotive Design GmbH can deliver.

More than 4 years have been spent in development with technology partner NOVIDEM AG in creating the unique B-CS system for the Audi R8. This no-expense spared solution includes extensive modifications. The B-CS system is driven by a Magnetic clutch with an integrated autonomous oil lubrication system. In addition, compressed air leaving the supercharger is further cooled with the use of a separate charge-cooling system that uses its own radiators to cool the air before it enters the motor. In a high output engine, such as that found in the Audi R8, this produces a significant advantage over other "charging" systems currently on the market.

Because the Centrifugal Supercharger uses very few moving parts, reliability is greatly improved. In addition to its simplicity, this system produces very little heat because of its internal compression ratio and is currently the most thermally efficient supercharger. Unlike other charging systems, the PPI B-CS system is mounted on the sides of the engine compartment and is isolated from the engine, eliminating the normally resulting "heat soak". This placement does not increase engine temperature, nor does it allow the engine's heat to enter the charger thereby further increasing the efficiency of the supercharging system.

Summary of Features and Modifications:

Engine Modification - Stronger racing-derived internal components are at the core of the PPI system and Includes: up-rated pistons, rings, connecting rods, bearings, and improved valvetrain. Compression ratio of 9.2:1.

Manual Transmission Modification - Strengthened 1st and 2nd gears and longer ratio final gear for achieving higher terminal speed. *note: currently only available for manual vehicles.

ECU Mapping - extensive re-mapping of the ECU software using our own binary, extensive road and dyno test cycles, with acceleration and deceleration tests for drivability smoothness and ECU fuel management. PPI is able to further adapt the system to specific fuel types of different regions to ensure perfect functionality and optimization of the Supercharging system.

Sport Exhaust - PPI Dual Inlet Sport Exhaust specifically designed and optimized to work with our Supercharging System, The sport exhaust develops greatly reduced backpressure resulting in even greater power and melodic sound for unsurpassed pure driving pleasure.

Centrifugal Supercharger - Two R48 Bi-Centrifugal Superchargers with Magnetic coupling.

Chargecooling - independently cooled water-to-air heat exchanger. System is isolated from the engine's cooling system.

Magnetic Clutch and autonomous oil lubrication system - The magnetic clutch allows the system to properly and smoothly engage when needed. It has an independent controller that does not allow the system to engage unless the engine is at optimal temperature. In addition, the comfort and transition of power is enhanced by the use of this system, i.e. There is no "bucking", the on/off sensation felt at low speeds. This affords greater comfort when driving at low speeds and shows the dynamics and development of our system to be practical in daily driving.

Air Intake System - A special sport air filter in a Carbon Fiber air box is used to ensure optimal and cold airflow to the Supercharger. An additional power increase is seen with the PPI Roof Ram-Charged Air Intake System (currently available on the PPI RAZOR GTR, GTR-10, and GTR-800 and can be ordered separately for any Audi R8 Coupe).

In unison, these components with the aid of custom engine operating maps complement each other to provide an ideal solution to the impressive realized power increase.
